My Review Of The Film Paranormal Activity

Initially receiving attention at Los Angeles’ Screamfest, the small budget independent film entitled Paranormal Activity sat on the shelf for almost two years until Paramount Pictures took the reins and edited the film’s conclusion.

Steven Spielberg is said to be a big fan of this film and reportedly had a hand in its final scene.

The main characters are few. Katie and Micah are a young couple having minor relationship struggles, but they are clearly in love and supportive of one another.

The couple relocates to a home in San Diego which they start to think could be haunted. As time passes, Katie explains her belief in the occult, and suggests that a poltergeist has shadowed her for many years. She even intimates that the ghost may have played a role in her sister’s demise.

This idea does not seem realistic to Micah, so he devises a plan to get to the bottom of the occurences. With the help of his video camera he begins to record the home at night.

When Micah actually gets some very unsettling evidence on tape, he becomes convinced that there is a dark force present and increasingly antagonizes the ghost.

The couple eventually meets with a specialist in paranormal phenomenon, but obtain few insights. The specialist abruptly ends the consultation, asserting that he does not have the skill or ability necessary to handle this type of ghost.

Micah’s antagonizing attitude toward the ghost persists, and he goes so far as to try to use a Ouija board to facilitate communication with the ghost. The film’s action continues to increase to a startling and frightening crescendo.

The film represents a great deal of ingenuity, even if subdued, and is a great example of editorial economy that still manages to grip its audience for the duration of the story.

On the whole, Paranormal Activity is a tremendously enjoyable, often terrifying ride. Anyone who enjoys subjecting themselves to fright by film should give it a try.

Ginger Sugarsnaps – An Excellent Werewolf Film

Ginger SugarSnaps is a low budget Canadian horror film directed by John Fawcett. It is about two death-obsessed sisters, Ginger and Brigitte Fitzgerald. The sisters are social outcasts who explore the realms of the macabre and are infatuated with suicide.

One night when planning to kidnap a dog, Ginger gets her first period. A local werewolf is attracted to the blood and then violently attacks her. Brigitte comes to the aid of her sister and the two run away while the werewolf is killed by their drug dealer friend, Sam.

Ginger and Brigitte now must deal with Ginger’s transformation. Ginger does not believe in werewolves at first and simply believes this to be a bad period. Brigitte starts to research cures with the help of Sam. Brigette, however, begins to grow a tail, which leads her to believe the curse may be true.

Ginger slowly gives in to her animal instincts, even passing on the werewolf curse when having sex, and changes completely before Brigitte and Sam can help her. In a final attempt to reach what is left of Ginger, Brigitte cuts Ginger and herself and mixes their blood. Thus giving her the curse to herself. However, Ginger kills Sam and then is killed by Brigitte who cannot save her sister.

I have to say that I really enjoyed Ginger SugarSnaps. The two leads are excellent, and this is an unflinching, intense addition to the werewolf sub-genre of horror movies. A lot of gore splattered throughout the movie gives it maximum shock value (although this also means some viewers will be turned off). I’m pleased to see a great modern horror film come out of Canada, and I’m glad to see that others are too. Of course, some people may see it as being merely crude and excessive, but that’s their prerogative. I’m not saying it’s perfect; some loose ends are left untied, but for me it doesn’t hurt the movie as a whole.

The Last Airbender: The Movie Or The TV Show?

Okay I just got back from seeing The Last Airbender. And although there are some hardcore Avatar fans out there that are disappointed in the movie, I honestly didn’t have that big of a problem with it. Although the funny pronunciations of the names will annoy you along with the altering of some of the scenes, but still it got the same point across and the fight sequences were awesome. But the characters, the plot, and the action are all worth looking at when looking at this movie.

The Avatar or the Last Airbender, has characters and personalities that a lot of people have fallen in love with. However the movie does fail to produce the same personalities rather it shows it in spurts rather than in full out fleshed characters. Aang is usually a happy-go-lucky child that makes mistakes and loves to laugh, however in the movie he comes across as a child with an adult personality. Yes, at times Aang is very serious in the show which is what is portrayed in the movie, but he also enjoys having fun, which is the aspect that the movie did not show…at all. The characters that did not have the looks but exactly the right personality were the Prince Zuko and his uncle, Iroh.

The plot was very similar to the show. The end and begin in pretty much the same spots as the show, but they middle parts have been altered a little. Such as in the movie Aang gives a speech to the Earthbender inside a camp, and this speech in the show is given by Katara. Stuff like that may or may not bother you, but it is different. To me, the unique pronunciations of names actually bothered me more.

The fighting and actions sequences are really what make this film. Much like the TV show, the movie definitely used real martial arts rather than simply copying from another film. The bending, the fight scenes, and the 3D effect were really good. Although the plot and characters may make you mad especially if you are familiar with the show, but the fighting is great.

For this movie it definitely has its highs and lows. Still don’t miss this one. All of the bad press comes from the changing of races in the movie; it didn’t bother me I cared more about the right personalities over which race played what character. It’s still a 4 out of 5 for the changes that were made. Go see it! Also you can get the series from Amazon below.

Bring The Oympians Home

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is finally on DVD. This movie really has a Harry Potter vibe to it, but that is probably related to the fact that director was also the director in the first Harry Potter movie. This movie was based off the book series by Rick Riordan, which could mean there may be future movies. This movie had a doable plot, enjoyable characters, and an adventure through history with a modern element. Don’t miss out on your copy today.

The plot is about the main character Percy who is a demigod and his best friend and his protector who happens to be a satyr. They journey with Athena’s daughter and they are looking for pearls that can teleport them anywhere since Percy’s mother was taken to Hades. So now you can watch this tape and find out if they get a chance to rescue his mother or not, and who Percy’s father really is.

The characters in the movie are ones that can be liked by adults and children. Percy appears to be the average guy, Athena’s daughter is a know-it-all with attitude, and the satyr is the type of fun loving, loyal friend that anyone could want. The three simply bond really well and you truly want them to succeed. And because of all the mythological creatures, children actually get a ancient Greek mythological lesson.

Although there are fun fight sequences in the movie in many ways its like a big history lesson. The movie talks about such creatures of myth like Medusa, Zeus, and Hades. Part of learning about the myths is finding out how demigods are born. But instead of traveling back in history, they find the answer in the United States.

If you want a series that the family can enjoy together than try this one. It’s definitely a 4 out of 5 stars. Fun adventure mixed with some mythology.

Don’t forget to buy Percy Jackson and The Lightning Theif from Amazon today. Also if you are looking on tips on other movies check out Totally Random Hobbies movie reveiws.

The New Game Turned Movie

Okay so I just got a chance to see the new Prince of Persia movie from Disney, and I give you the Prince of Persia movie review. This movie has really good action sequences and the plot was relatively easy to follow, the characters (if you are familiar with the game) are pretty accurate, however the ending was not exactly as good as I would have liked although it was acceptable. Disney did a good job with most parts of this movie including the casting, however I think they tampered with the ending a little too much. And yes, this does contain some spoilers.

The plot like I said is easy to follow. When in the marketplace standing up for friend, is where the prince was found by the king. Right then and there this orphan boy becomes a prince because the king chooses to adopt him. When he is older he is mislead by his brother into offering his father a garment that kills him. Now that he is fugitive since everything thinks he has killed the king, he is desperate to find out why his brother would do this. Can he prove his innocence and figure out was it his brother that framed him?

The characters stayed pretty close to the game. The flirting between the prince and princess are expressed through their constant banter. The prince is charming and slightly awkward like he supposed to and the princess is head strong and spirited as ever. The way they look, act, dress, all the way down to the accent are great for this movie.

The action in the movie was really nicely done. The fight sequences along with the ones that included the dagger were entertaining as well interesting. Most of the action kept you on the end of your seat. There were a few instances that the special effects looked generated but it didn’t happen so often that it was a turn off, but I was surprised that it happened at all. Also the ending perfectly wrapped up everything in what seems to be a perfect bow. They found who really killed the king, which I won’t give away, and everyone lives because time was reversed. It’s a good family ending but with how cut throat it was becoming it seems to contrast with everyone just living.

In conclusion this would have to be 4 out of 5. It worth seeing but due to the special effect mishaps and the ending for me, it’s still a four. If you want something that boys will enjoy because of the action and girls can enjoy because of the love story this is a great family movie. Although, really the entire family will get a kick out of this movie. Well that’s it for this Prince of Persia movie review.

If you are looking for fun filled movies for the family try some of these family movies on DVD from Amazon. Also for other tips and reviews check out Totally Random Hobbies’ movie reviews.

Free Watch Never Back Down Online

If you like ambition stories, then Never Back Down is the one for you. This is a story about a guy called Jake, the key factor behind his teams winning at a match. A comment from the lost opponent team sets his fuses off and the resulting brawl found a slot at Youtube. Jake, in the last year of the school, gets chucked out from the basketball team. Jake and his family then moves to Orlando, Florida.

Jakes brother, in the meantime, received a tennis scholarship at Orlando, Florida and the whole family moves there, but Jake, due to his habit of inviting troubles too often, finds it hard fitting in his new school. But that doesnt stop him from catching the eyes of one Baja Miller, willing to flirt big time. Whether such events turn most people heroic or not is a different question, but Jake interrupted a street-kickboxing session to rescue his fellow student Max thinking it to be a real scrap. The reward for his heroism was a general demand for an astonished Jake to leave, only until his Youtube brawl got flashed.

So, Jake starts getting some positive reputation in the campus; even Max suggests that he meets his instructor to learn advanced fighting techniques. Baja plays it a bit different, to show her appreciation to Jake, she invites him to a party her boyfriend Ryan has thrown. Jake does what every man would do, only to decline challenges later at the party, thrown by none but Ryan. It took him sometime to realize that hes been set up and the same cruel joke makes an angry Jake fight and accept defeat miserably.

The movie revolves around how Jake deals with the different situations he has around him. By making him promise not to use his martial arts techniques outside the ring, Jakes mentor is only teaching him how to control his anger and temper and avoid getting into unnecessary brawls and street fights. While Jake thinks all hes learning is martial arts, sub consciously he is learning how to master his mind and emotions and build himself into an organized force capable of taking enemies down without getting emotionally involved like before. The movie also brings back memories of how easy it is to get provoked into fighting with someone, especially at school. Kids can be mean and negative, but fighting with them isnt the only way deal with it. The movie explores how Jake wins by controlling himself rather than giving in to emotional outbursts.

Never Back Down is better watched than read and yhere is nothing like the movie running in a nearby theater, but you may also download it straight from the Internet i.e. from any of those websites that have crystal clear, audibly superior, full-length movies – not only Never Back Down, but any from the huge database.

Aliens in the Attic movie is a family oriented movie set in Michigan but originally shot in New Zealand. This movie has two parts to it. The digital effects are good and the cast is athletic, which helps make the action a bit more believable. The movie is based on alien invading Earth. The characters are both funny and appealing.

The aliens are four in number, commanded by Skip (J.K.Simmons’ voice) a warrior Razor who is a girl (Kari Wahlgren’s voice), muscular Tazer (Voiced by Thomas Church) and Sparks (Voiced by Josh Peek). The action is not too graphic which is a pleasant change for children movies.

Joining them are their relatives who form another family, where Andy Richter plays the dad who is a beer drinker, Doris Roberts plays an off centred grandmother role, Austin Butler plays the male teen role and Henri and Regan Young play the identical twins one.
