What Is Harry Potter All About?

Harry Potter is fictional character created by J.K. Rowling as part of her popular Harry Potter series of novels.

The central figure, Harry Potter, is an orphan student of magic at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry’s own parents had been attacked by Lord Voldemort on October 31 while trying to protect their son.

Harry’s mother Lily managed to rescue her son by applying protective ancient magic, though she perished in the incident.

Throughout the stories, Harry’s two companions, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, dutifully assist him with the highs and lows of life. The challenges and obstacles faced range from stereotypically awkward incidents that come with maturity to combating villainous forces.

The stories that make up the Harry Potter series touch upon several critical issues faced by children as they grow. Among the incorporated themes are love, mortality, friendship, bravery and prejudice, and they are all given treatments which children can find instructive.

The books are written as a fantasy based mystery in which the reader learns the secrets of the story at the same time that Harry Potter gains the information.

Rowling wisely hooks her readers by keeping the thoughts and knowledge of the other characters concealed from Harry until the plot unfolds them.

Beyond the book series, there have been movies released that have been among the most popular movie series ever released. Harry Potter is recognized world wide and has a following of fans that travel world-wide to attend lectures and specially planned Potter themed activities.

Adults as well as children will find the Harry Potter series of books to be highly entertaining. The complete set of seven stories has already been released, and no additional books are forthcoming. It is quite possible that no other story or series of stories will ever achieve a comparable level of popularity.

If you haven’t read the Harry Potter books then start reading them now because they’re fantastic.

Teaching, Learning, And Knowledge

How do we teach one another? How can it be that we were instructed in everything that we now know?

At some points in history, knowledge was elitist and even a forbidden concept. In 399 BC, Socrates explained that he was known as the wisest of all men since he understood that he knew nothing. Socrates was ultimately executed because of his unyielding questioning to the Athens population to find out how they knew what they knew.

In this days, we still ask Socratic questions and have yet to fully understand the answers; however, technology is bringing us closer and closer.

Science and technology discovered is that the human brain is capable of processing from 10,000 to 50,000 units or single words in one minute. But, these are older statistics from the 1980s, but new technology studying speed reading combined with brain development research indicates that you can most likely read even faster. Most high school graduates read 200 words per minute, down from 252 wpm from 25 years ago. College students, only one or two years older, have improved to 120% words per minute simply from having to read so much and the brain practicing reading so much. Regardless, of your beginning reading speed “it increases for 50-60% the first day is more than likely, in two days of reading practice ” youve doubled your reading speed.

The brain is a computer composed of human organic materials. If you were to consider your brain as the hardware (CPU = Central Processing Unit or a computers own brain) and your mind (the thoughts you think) as the software, you wouldnt be far from what the scientists evaluating the brain believe; that the mind and brain are component parts of our physical bodies is to give us an efficient way to learn more things.

The human mind is connected to our physical bodies to make life more convenient for us to learn and thrive. This amazing tool allows us to absorb a universe of knowledge in many different ways.

Childhood education creates the first limitations to reading ability. Heres what the first two years usually look like to a young learner of language: 1. First, we are introduced to the alphabet and how each letter sounds. 2. Then, we move on to put letters together into syllables and hear their unique sounds. 3. Later, we formed words and their individual pronunciations. 4. Then, we progressed to sentences and lastly paragraphs, which we read loudly.

In that learning technique, we move our lips slowly and carefully so that we would pronounce each syllable and each word clearly. There were entire classes dedicated to learning how to read out loud.

We did pronounce every single word correctly, and then we were praised by our teacher and we felt the thrill and excitement because we were learning so well. Soon, it was determined that we could indeed read, so we no longer read in the classroom out loud. Most of us, nevertheless, were still concentrating on the syllables and reading each word out loud to ourselves for confirmation. This phenomenon, called sub-vocalization, is what causes us to have the 200-300 words per minute limitation to our reading speeds in high school and University. Interestingly, its the same speed at which most people talk (unless you live in the Southern US and have learned the Southern Drawl that slows you down even more).

Theres been experiments to show that high school students that use speed reading methods can double their reading speed. When these techniques are practiced on a regular basis, the results are even more impressive.

With the power of the brain and mind combined, you can stretch out and achieve far greater abilities. In fact, the quantity of words that can be read per minute has no bounds. It is only a persons inner voice that can limit us, stop us and confuse us while reading or studying.

These voices tend to Babble On while you are striving to perform tasks, such as reading. It is the same voice that can make you panic before an exam. It is only when you quiet this Babblers voice that you can truly transfer and speed read material at a phenomenal rate.

SPEED READING can help you to overcome slow reading habits developed from your early education. You can then retrain yourself to read faster.

It is remarkable how your brain and mind have the ability to absorb thousands of bits of information in a small amount of time. You are like many people that read slowly on account of early education. You become bogged down when you are mouthing syllables and words. Even though you have developed these bad habits in early education, its great to know that from this moment on, you can retrain yourself to be a powerful SPEED READER and your potential has no limit.

One benefit of Speed Reading is that it can assist you in reading and understanding written information faster. Speed Reading is useful in careers, especially where you are required to master large volumes of information quickly. Many people run into burn out from information overload. Speed Reading assists you to absorb and retain, for later recall, all the information that you read.

You can be the best you can be in University and in the Corporate America. Make sure to check out Dr. Jay Polmar’s most excellent course: The Complete Speed Reading Program — there are family and business editions. The Complete Speed Reading program , and be the best you can be in University and business- be powerful!

3 Low Cost Ways To Meet Agents & Editors

These days it’s common knowledge that it’s hard to meet an Agent or an editor through an unsolicited mailing. They are more likely to pay attention to a submission coming from someone they have met in person. To that end, writers flock to conferences so they can get some face time with real live agents and editors. And that’s great. I believe writers should get out and network. But those conferences can be pricey. It’s best to combine attending conferences with a few other strategies that are easier on your wallet. Here are 3 you may find useful.

1.) Attend Author Readings

Make a point of keeping track of writers who do work similar to yours. When they’re in the vicinity go hear them read. Sometimes–not all the time–but sometimes the author’s agent and editor will be in the audience. If they aren’t, see if you can steal a few moments with the writer and ask with whom he or she works and whether they have been pleased with the experience. You can either ask for an introduction or contact the people on your own. If you’re going to do the former, first develop a rapport with the writer and stay in touch. They may not feel comfortable referring you to their agent or editor right off the bat, but in time as they get to know you and your work, an introduction may be a possibility.

2.) Attend Classes Offered by Continuing Education Groups Such As The Learning Annex

Agents and editors are in the business of looking for the next hot writer and making a name for themselves in the publishing world. That’s why you’ll often find agents and editors teaching classes related to their work at places such as The Learning Annex, which has locations in New York City, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta and Boston (http://www.learningannex.com). Recent instructors include literary agent Katharine Sands, editor Marcela Landres (formerly of Simon & Schuster) and Vickie M. Stringer, founder and CEO of Triple Crown Publications. The courses can cost as little as $30 or $40 and last about three hours so you have some time to find out if the instructor can help you or point you in the direction of someone who can.

Remember the agent or editor probably has aspiring authors handing them manuscripts all the time, so make sure you stand out from the pack. Have a killer query letter and synopsis (if your book is a novel) or book proposal (for non-fiction works) at the ready. You’ll make a great impression simply because you’re not making them lug a 500-page behemoth home in their briefcase!

3.) Look for Agents and Editors Who Have Their Own Personal Websites

When you come across the name of an agent or editor who may be appropriate for you, Google them to see if they have their own websites with email addresses that may be different from their corporate mailboxes. Some are authors themselves (like literary agent Donald Maass, author of Writing the Breakout Novel) and have books of their own to promote. Email them and, again, try to develop a rapport and get a sense of what they’re working on and what they’re looking for. It’s best to know as specifically as possible before going through the trouble of making a submission. I recently heard about a writer who submitted to an agent looking for African American authors, but in fact the agent was looking for African American authors who wrote urban romance–which was not the writer’s genre at all.

One Last Note: These ideas should get you started and I hope they’ll inspire you to try other creative routes. It does get easier because you will find that as you go to more events and tell more people what you’re doing, the more likely you will be to find the connector that will build the path between you and your future agent or editor.

Confronting The Pain By Writing Via The Tremendous Sadness

36 months ago, I started crafting a fiction for tweens, Belle in the Slouch Hat. It is a story about a young girl who searches for revenge after her brother was killed in the Civil War. I purposely started the storyline for my grandchildren; and I needed something to fill an emptiness in me due to the losing my precious mother, and another special woman during my life. They died within two months of one another.

Anytime someone we love dies, we need to grieve; there is no way to avoid it. Everyone must undergo the sorrow and pain in their own way. My avenue was penning.

Just after losing those I treasured, it felt as if something was obstructing my hurting and protecting me through the harshness and misery related to death. To this day, I do believe ıt had been the Holy Spirit helping me through one of the most difficult times in my life. You many decide upon to call it something different, but I believe it was the Holy Spirit. Eventually after that, the reality of the deaths set in and I had no choice but to undergo the next phase of losing someone you love, the grieving process.

At age sixty-one, I sat at my computer; I began to compose, and I started to get well. I jumped right into writing a novel without the full appreciation of what I was coming into. I didn’t stop take into account the amount of hours in which I would so willingly give to it, nor did I stop to think there was a correct way of doing it, all I know was I had to write. Sometimes it was down-right physically, mentally, and emotionally painful; other times, I felt drained of every once of energy in my body. Occasionally, my sense of meaning and my most treasured beliefs about life were challenged.

There was clearly virtually no time-line for when I needed to finish; and no one could influence to me when it will be finished. It required a lot of time; not just a day, not a month, not one year, but two full years.

Aside from the first three pages of my book, I did not provide an order, or a plot ot follow, I just needed to write. I even built a imaginary barrier around me and didn’t want anyone to know what I was writing, except my better half.

The more often I wrote, the more I need to to write. Writing provided an outlet to cry, to laugh, and also have an adventure. Unconsciously, I had formed my very own support group with the personae inside my story. For me, it was a safe place to express my thinking and work through my tremendous grief. I also found a means for me to remember those I loved.

Go to “Belle in the Slouch Hat” for more info to do with Writing For Tweens. To get help with easy methods to increase website traffic you need to visit Clickadvantage.

Blonde Joke Book Is Good Clean Fun

Many people like to hear a good joke. Unfortunately, it may be really hard to find good ones that you could repeat to everyone. This blonde jokes book is stuffed with blonde jokes that aren’t full of explicit words or situations.

I’ll admit it. I have no problem with sexual connotations or swear words. But that is not the case with everyone. Therefore it is nice to find some jokes that can be used no matter who you are talking to.

Maybe it’s just my age but I find it tiring to be controlled by jokes in which someone obviously thought repeating a swear word again and again was the height of good humor. It isn’t. If there is no attempt to actually be funny, it’s just dull.

The jokes in this book are adorable, they’re amusing and light-hearted. Yes, it’s poking fun at blondes. But it does so in a light way that doesn’t feel mean-spirited. Just very good, clean jokes that are funny. Yes, they really do still exist. At least here they do.

I’m usually start reading jokes with a pretty cynical attitude. It comes from being disappointed so often that I’ve become jaded. In cases like this, I was surprised to find myself laughing at a lot of the jokes. Sometimes, I laughed so hard out loud that the other people within the room wanted to know what was funny.

Most blonde jokes feature women. I realized this because some of the ones here have blonde men. I had to read these twice as I assumed they were about females and then they didn’t make sense.

If you are searching for jokes that are sexually oriented or full of adult humor, this is simply not the book for you. But if you want good clean jokes that are just plain funny, I can definitely recommend it. It’s nice to find something you can share with everyone.

Agatha Christie’s The Big Four Featuring Detective Poirot

Agatha Christie is the undisputed queen of British crime and mystery writing and released many of her novels before World War II. She had a number of different characters that she used regularly, but the two best known and loved are Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Agatha Christie The Big Four with Hercule Poirot is a slightly different book to many of her other crime books.

The difference between this book and most of the others is that it is a book of four short stories rather than the investigation of one single crime. The book was released in 1927 after being compiled from a few short stories that were released in Sketch Magazine.

The book opens with a regular Christie character Captain Hastings visiting Hercule Poirot to find that he is making preparations for a trip to the USA. Poirot has been offered a large sum of money by an American to travel there and he asks Hastings if he knows anything of the “Big Four”.

They are visited before Poirot departs by a character who tells them of the “Big Four” that one of the members is a Chinese mastermind, another a supposed American, a French femme fatale and the final member is known as the “destroyer”. Hastings and Poirot pretend to depart for their trip, but return to the apartment to find the man dead. This naturally prompts Poirot into investigative action.

When you read The Big Four you are taken along the ride of the plot twists and back flips and somersaults that Agatha Christie is well known for. She does not let you down here and both Agatha Christie fans and the uninitiated to the queen of crime will find this book a completely satisfying adventure.

If you are looking for a mystery that is easy to read and packs all the intrigue and suspense that you would expect, then you should get a copy of Agatha Christie The Big Four with Hercule Poirot.

Agatha Christie books maintain their popularity around the world decades after the demise of the queen of British mystery writers. Agatha Christie: The Big Four book is a compilation of four short stories featuring favorite detective Hercules Poirot.

Cycling Is A Success While The Marriage Fails

Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France numerous times, regardless of the bitterness of the French press that tried to discredit him time and again, that it astonishes us. He rose from cancer victim to cancer conqueror to cycling victor. He was determined. At times he fell behind other cyclists in different stages of the races. Reportedly, falling behind was on purpose so he could conserve his strength for more difficult stages. Other times, it was because someone, perhaps a sprinter, put on a burst of speed and outdid him. Whatever, he kept himself from being discouraged, figured out how he could have done better, and charged forth again with victory in mind.

Nevertheless, champion though he was on the bicycle, he was a dud when it came to marriage and relationships.

With several legitimate and illegitimate children to his credit and discredit, he seems to show no remorse, at least publicly, over his apparent failure as a good husband or father. We say that because if he were a good husband, he would have worked on preserving his marriage, and wouldn’t have a horde of “relationships” behind him. His legitimate children would still have a full time father, and his other children wouldn’t have to carry the stigma of illegitimacy around with them all of their lives. Yes, we are aware that it’s not such a big deal as it was a couple decades ago, but children born out of wedlock do experience a great void in their lives.

Possibly the fact that he reportedly was an illegitimate child, himself, that his birth father left him and his mother, and that his mother had married and divorced three times, had something to do with his attitude toward marriage and relationships Or perhaps it was his lack of faith as an agnostic. He is cited as saying: At the end of the day, if there was indeed some body or presence standing there to judge me, I hoped I would be judged on whether I had lived a true life…

A true life? Excuse us? Yes, he was true to cycling and although he doesn’t recognize it, many people were praying for him to be successful, including us, for his courage was admirable. But no, he wasn’t true in his personal life. Or so it seems. However, since we don’t know the man personally, it could be that he would have been true had his wives been true. We don’t know who was at fault, but if he is like the bulk of men, and especially since he had to be gone much of the time to pursue his career, it is likely that he didn’t meet his marriage responsibilities properly and the marriages were in trouble.

Every marriage should have, as its goal, love that reaches the arte level, the Greek word for excellence. “That’s easy,” says the newlywed who is still starry-eyed and the truth hasn’t hit the fan yet. “We’re doing fine,” says the husband who hasn’t a clue that his wife is unhappy. “I’ve settled for less than what I desire,” says the wife who has given up hope.

That’s what our site for men and site for women on saving marriages is all about. Both sites show women and men what unique moves they can make to reach that level of arte or close to it so that their marriages will stay well-built and secure.

Be willing to put the same unconquerable spirit into making your marriage a victorious journey in life as Lance Armstrong has done to become a worldwide champion; so that, unlike him, you can save your marriage and give your children that wonderful knowledge that they have steady, loving parents who will keep things together. We give you the tools and the keys for doing just that. Come join us now for a sparkling future in your marriage.
